Despair
Shadow filled her deadened eyes, Enveloping and smothering her, Making her give up and give in, For no color was left here for her.
No saphire sky or emerald grass, No flaming sun or golden leaf, No amethyst night or silver star, All things were black...gray...white.
There were no visible means of escape from the heavy shadows of her life, And she saw only one entrance, only one exit to which she longed to reach.
And on that day the shadow lifted, And she truly saw the world, And as her silent shade life ended, She saw scarlet ribbons spiralling to the thirsty ground.
She dropped the key that would have given her freedom Thinking to liberate herself. Instead as she died there, lying on that stained earth, She'd givin in to despair.
Grim, huh? My original version is even grimmer. But I am a morbid person.
